Meeting basic human needs through feeding, clothing, sheltering, case-management and changing lives for good since 1983.

Who We Are

The Good Shepherd Mission is a Christ centered, 501c3 non-profit organization. Our funding is through individuals, churches, area businesses, civic clubs, and our thrift store. We work with other local human services organizations and share resources as available. We serve all walks of life equally. Most of the people we serve are local and live in poverty. One-third of the clients we serve are elderly, and many are disabled. One-quarter of our clients are children.

What We Are Working On

We are working constantly working on assiting the homeless population of Walker County to get back on their feet to a productive life.

Transitional Housing for Lodgers

Huntsville is growing; therefore, our homeless population will grow as well. For this reason, the Board of Directors has approved us working on a solution. First, we were gifted an additional 3.7 acres of property that adjoins our former property line on the north end. We are currently exploring various housing solutions to expand the amount of homeless people we can help by adding physical capacity. Adding capacity will help us assist more people in recovering their lives and will keep more homeless people off of the streets of Huntsville.

A Work Program for Men

We have started a pilot, work program for men. This program provides opportunities for people in need of work around their houses to hire vetted men from the Good Shepherd Mission. Money is saved through this program for these men to get a place to live when they graduate the Life Recovery Program.
