Prayers in Navajo & English

NOTE: You will need to have Navajo fonts installed on your computer for the prayers in Navajo to load properly. The Lord's Prayer below is written in Times New Roman-Navajo. Coming soon: we will also have these prayers available to download as Word documents or PDF files.

The Gathering Prayer

Creator, we give you thanks for all you are and all you bring to us for our visit within your creation.

In Jesus, you place the Gospel in the center of this sacred circle through which all of creation is related. You show us the way to live a generous and compassionate life.

Give us your strength to live together with respect and commitment as we grow in your spirit, for you are God, now and forever.
Amen.

Dine' Sodozin

(Blessing Way prayer in English)

Jesus Christ, young chief, God’s son in power,

Now I have made your offering;

          your smoke I have given.

Today your child I become,

          today your grandchild I become;

As you say to me I will do;

          your commands I will follow.

Just as I pray to you, so you perform it:

          now watch over me.

You stand as my defense:

In my defense you stretch out your hand;

Plead my cause.

From forest streams toward me be beauty,

From all growing things toward me be beauty.

From blowing winds may peace come;

From passing rains may peace come;

From passing thunder may peace come.

Close by me, let the dew fall.

Close by me, let corn pollen form.

Before me peace, behind me peace;

May I walk in fullness of life;

May I walk always in holy beauty.

Peace has returned.

Peace has returned.

Peace has returned.

Peace has returned.
