Economic Development Project

In 1897, Good Shepherd Mission was deeded 48 acres of land in the Fort Defiance, AZ area of the Navajo Reservation. Over the years, thirty acres of that land has gone undeveloped, being variously used for pasture and/or crops.

Having such privately owned land - which is not subject to the vagaries and restrictions of Tribal Trust Land - can be a great economic benefit, not only for the Mission, but to the whole community. Opportunities are being explored that honor the historic nature of the property.
